Code of Conduct
HCOMP 2026 is committed to providing an inclusive, respectful, and harassment-free environment for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, religion, or any other characteristic.
Diversity of opinion and background is a fundamental strength of our community. We expect all participants, including attendees, speakers, organizers, and sponsors, to abide by this Code of Conduct in all conference-related activities, whether in-person or online.
Expected Professional Behavior
We expect all HCOMP participants to maintain a professional environment by:
- Treating everyone with respect and consideration. Be mindful of your speech and behaviors, both in person and online.
- Communicating openly and thoughtfully. Be considerate of the multitude of views and opinions that may be different from your own.
- Being respectful and mindful in your critique of ideas. Focus on the work rather than the individual.
- Practicing inclusion. Actively encourage and provide space for a diverse range of voices.
- Being mindful of fellow participants. Respect personal boundaries, wishes to not be photographed, gender pronouns, and the right to engage or disengage in conversation.
Unacceptable Behavior
Harassment, discrimination, or abuse in any form will not be tolerated. Examples of unacceptable behavior include, but are not limited to:
- Unwelcome comments regarding a person’s lifestyle choices and practices.
- Deliberate intimidation, antagonism, or threats of violence.
- Exclusionary jokes or comments.
- Unwelcome sexual attention or physical contact.
- Sustained disruption of presentations, events, or online discussions.
- Continued one-on-one communication after requests to cease.
- Comments that reinforce social structures of domination related to gender, race, disability, or other protected characteristics.
